Power Computing 1997 Fight Tyranny Macworld poster

This is a super rare Power Computing poster from the 1997 San Francisco Macworld. The text is "The Fight Against Tyranny Begins! Join the Mac Resistance!" This Apple clone poster was designed by punk rock poster artist Frank Kozik who did a series of them for PowerComputing in the mid '90's until Steve Jobs returned to Apple and ended the clone program later that year.

At the January 1997 Macworld Expo, Power Computing fired up the Mac faithful with its “Fight Back for the Mac!” campaign, complete with company reps dressed in camouflage uniforms circling the Expo hall in Hummers emblazoned with Power Computing logos.

This poster was collected at the January Moscone Center Macworld Expo and the original owner had this to say: "The Power Computing booth was out of this poster by the time I got there, but a peripheral manufacturing company (whose name escapes me) was displaying this - hence the staple holes. Anyway they said I could have it if I came back at the end of the day. So I did! As mentioned, this does have some holes where it was stapled to a display board." It measures approx. 23" by 32" and the staple holes in top and bottom white space should cover when framed.

Extremely rare pin - Keep Your Lawyers Off My Computer

This is the infamous Fanged Apple, a design created in protest of Apple's lawsuit regarding graphical user interfaces (GUI) software. This 2.25" diameter button is in very good condition with all details crisp and clear. It was one of three released several years ago by a collector in California. Provenance: the former owner of this pin, a speaker at several Boston MacWorlds in the early 90's, says "I personally obtained this button from Richard Stallman outside of Lotus's offices in Cambridge, MA!"

"In 1989, Apple's look and feel lawsuit against Microsoft brought the idea of interface copyright to the attention of the programming community. Apple was trying to claim a monopoly over a broad class of graphical user interfaces. If Apple succeeded, not only Microsoft, but every software developer, would be legally compelled to design gratuitously incompatible software." In response, John Gilmore and Richard Stallman together commissioned the design of the "fanged Apple"–a button showing the Apple logo with vicious teeth. This was followed by an advertisement placed in The Tech, MIT's student newspaper, which in turn led to a protest rally at the HQ of Lotus Development Corporation--another "look and feel" lawsuit plaintiff."

Shown here are 3 Apple iPod posters announcing the debut of new iPods at Apple’s Live On Stage event back in 2003. The 3rd generation iPod Classic had launched a week earlier on April 28, 2003. The LIVE event took place at the Fashion Island Apple Store in Newport Beach, CA with DJ Hawkeye "spinning" 2 iPods.

The original owner had this to say about it: "This poster is in great condition and has been in a protective storage since I acquired it during the 1997 Macworld Expo in San Francisco and was unrolled only to take this picture." This Apple clone poster was designed by punk rock poster artist Frank Kozik and was distributed at Macworld. "Kozik is best known to Macintosh users for these in-your-face illustrations for now-defunct Mac-clone maker Power Computing."

"Power Computing was the most successful of the Mac clone manufacturers in the mid to late 90's prior to Steve Job's return to Apple and putting an end to all the clone makers. Power Computing's booth at Macworld '97 in San Francisco was a big party. They rented Hummers, had mini flags with the company logo hanging from the front of the hood field marshal-style, and wore urban camouflage fatigues and berets."
